Schlero Vein Removal

Sclerotherapy is a highly safe and proven treatment for reducing the appearance of unwanted thread veins, spider veins, and smaller varicose veins. While there are alternative procedures available, sclerotherapy remains one of the most effective and reliable options. The injections are virtually painless, and patients can resume normal activities within just 15 minutes after the treatment. Sclerotherapy works by injecting a specialised solution into the affected veins using an ultra-fine needle. This solution causes the vein walls to collapse, sealing them shut and rerouting blood flow through healthier veins. Over time, the collapsed veins are reabsorbed into the body and fade away.

What to Expect During the Procedure:

  • The procedure uses a sclerosant solution, such as Fibrin, Polidocanol, sodium tetradecyl sulfate, or hypertonic saline.
  • Aesthetic technicians test the solution beforehand to ensure no allergic reaction occurs.
  • The target area is cleaned, and the sclerosant is injected into the vein using a fine needle.
  • The treated vein collapses, scars, and is eventually reabsorbed, redirecting blood to healthier veins.
  • Multiple sessions may be necessary to treat all affected veins.
  • In rare cases, the treatment may not work for everyone.

Post-Procedure Care Includes (but not limited to):

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin and ibuprofen for at least two days after the procedure.
  • Refrain from hot baths, saunas, whirlpools, and direct sunlight for at least 48 hours.
  • Seek medical attention if you experience sudden swelling, ulceration, or inflammation.
  • Walking is encouraged, and compression stockings should be worn as instructed.
  • Avoid aerobic activities and heavy lifting for a few days.

Safety and Risks Include (but not limited to):

While sclerotherapy is generally safe, there are some potential risks and complications. Common side effects include haemosiderin deposition, where iron pigments cause temporary brown stains on the skin, and telangiectatic matting, where tiny veins form a reddish bruise-like pattern. These side effects typically resolve within 6-18 months. Mild side effects such as itching, redness, and bruising may occur and usually subside within weeks. In rare cases, more serious complications like allergic reactions, blood clots, or ulceration can occur.

Contraindications Include (but not limited to):

  • Sclerotherapy is not recommended for pregnant women or women nursing a child
  • Individuals with a history of blood clots may or may not be suitable for this treatment, depending on their specific condition.
